New Kitchen Toy

As many of you that know me, know I can come off as a "slightly" over-protective, hypochondriac, OCD parent - who was once convinced that I accidentally exposed my son to botulism, because I gave him a taste of my "honey bunches of oats" cereal before he turned one - and no I'm sadly not joking!  Needless to say the advice nurses and Max's doctor know me well.  So, I'm sure you are not surprised to read that I started obsessing when my son started to turn his nose to fruit!  Yes, he LOVES watermelon and at times I can get him to eat a banana, but that is it!!!  And believe me, it is not due to a lack of me trying!!!  So, when my Mom decided to upgrade her Nutribullet to a Vitamix (and yes I'm totally jealous), I offered to buy her Nutribullet from her in the hopes I could persuade my little Max to enjoy fruit in smoothie form.

I'd like to note that my husband and I bought a juicer a couple years ago and used it religiously for about a year to year and a half, but I was always so disheartened by the amount of pulp and fiber we would compost after every use, not to mention the outrageous amount of fruit and veggies that were needed to make a juice for me and my husband.   Did I mention it is a PAIN IN THE A$$ to clean?!? So, basically after Max was born it was put away in the closet never to see the light of day again.  And yes, I did consider dusting off the cobwebs and trying to juice again, but I just couldn't justify denying Max all the wasted fiber I would be throwing away after ever use!

Let the smoothie experimenting begin!!!

I start with one orange, pealed, and about a 1/4 cup of water in the bullet.

After blending until smooth, I remove my fresh squeezed OJ and reserve for later.

Let the nutrition begin!

Lately I've been adding a handful of spinach, a couple frozen strawberries, a couple mango chunks, a frozen banana to the bullet and then add the reserved OJ.   Really you could add whatever frozen berries or fruit you have on hand...I love Trader Joe's frozen fruit selection and frequent there about once a week to stock up on smoothie supplies!

Max LOVES helping me make our daily morning smoothie and has been LOVING them!  We've also started adding pumpkin seeds and a carrot to the mix and after every taste my little man will ask for more!  I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Nutribullet and literally don't know how I ever lived without it!  If you are on the fence about buying one, come on over and Max and I will make you a smoothie that will forever change your life!  Happy Smoothie'ing!
