My Food Journey Begins

You are told having children will change your life - this is a statement I wholeheartedly believed, but I did not expect the ways in which my life would change!...Though life has changed in so many positive, magical, heartwarming ways, this blog is specifically regarding the unexpected transformation of my eating habits post-baby.

I've always considered myself to be a "healthy" eater.  I try to cook from scratch, buy organic, and grow my own food (though I am not the most successful gardener), and would pride myself in saying that I NEVER ate from a fast food restaurant, but after having my son in August 2012, my healthy eating habits collapsed.  I find myself driving through drive-thru's (being that I am starving, exhausted, and do not dare wake my boy who has finally fallen asleep after a morning of tantrums), and at the grocery store much of my purchases are from the frozen food department or from the middles isles.  Now that my son (13 months) is eating pretty much everything my husband and I eat, a microscope has been placed on our eating habits.  I find myself making special healthy meals for my son, while my husband and I binge on frozen pizza or boxed macaroni and cheese.  Not to mention the strain on our grocery budget with this "lazy" eating habit.  So, I find myself at a crossroads - either I continue overworking myself to provide a healthy meal for my son while my husband and I continue to eat the convenient processed foods or I change my way of thinking about meal planning to provide a healthy diet that both my son and me and my husband can enjoy...though out this blog I will be posting both my success and failures for homemade healthy meals and grocery savings.  I hope you will find this as an inspiration to create a healthier lifestyle for you and your family.
